LCRC Mail Lists and Majordomo

Announcements of interest to LCRC's user community are made via email and saved in individual list archives. LCRC also supports a number of user email lists. For a description of the available lists, their membership and posting restrictions, and access to their archives, please see Email Lists. All LCRC lists are of the form <list-name>@lcrc.anl.gov.

Membership requirements vary depending on the purpose of the list. Some lists are open only to users with active Jazz accounts, while others are open to the general public. Our email lists are managed by software called Majordomo. You can join, subscribe to or cancel your participation, unsubscribe from by using Majordomo commands and electronic mail. Majordomo can also provide basic information about the lists. For a full details on how to use Majordomo, see Using Majordomo.

jazz-users@lcrc.anl.gov^(N) Automatically created (all active Jazz users belong). Important announcements of interest to all Jazz users. User meetings, policy changes, major planned downtime, large reservations, allocations and other long-term news. For temporal, day to day notifications, users should subscribe to the notify mail list. by month

notify@lcrc.anl.gov^(N) Subscribe/Unsubscribe This list is used by the administrators of the LCRC cluster to communicate operational status that would be of interest to the active user community. Subscribe to this list if you desire notification of events such as short emergency outages and other temporal changes.
Users may also use the 'notifyme' command on any Jazz machine to turn list membership off and on.
To turn on notification:
notifyme -y
To turn off notification:
notifyme -n

discuss@lcrc.anl.gov^(N) Subscribe/Unsubscribe This list is used by the Jazz user community to communicate with each other, sharing things like tips, problems, observations, and solutions. Some example discussion topics include benchmarking results, advice for best practices of programming, library use, data analysis, and other high-performance computing issues. LCRC application engineers and system administrators will also receive the postings, and will respond when most appropriate.
New users are automatically subscribed to this list. Users may subscribe and unsubscribe as desired from the discuss list.
