REMINDER: Bebop Rebuild on July 1, 2024

LCRC Users,

A reminder that we are planning on moving the LCRC Bebop cluster onto a new operating system. We will be moving from CentOS 7 to Rocky Linux 8. This is currently planned for Monday, July 1, 2024. This will happen on the login nodes, general use queues and the condo queues.

As this is a major OS change, we will be rebuilding some of the 3rd party software. We do not intend to rebuild everything that is currently available on Bebop and the current software stack will be removed.  If you have a need for a package that is currently installed on Bebop, please let us know by submitting a ticket if you have not already. If we do not receive a request for software, it will likely not be available on day 1. Since there will be newer compilers available, the expectation is that you will likely need to recompile codes as well.

This upgrade will also include the change from Slurm to PBS for the job scheduler.

If you have any questions or software needs, please contact support@lcrc.anl.gov
